About RSS
RSS is an XML based document format for syndicating news and other timely
news-like information. It provides headlines, URLs to the source document
and brief description information in an easy to understand and use format.
RSS based "News Readers" and "News Aggregators" allow
the display of RSS headlines on workstation desktops. Software libraries
exist to read the RSS format and present RSS headlines on webpages and
other online applications. |
About CAP
Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) is an non-proprietary standard data format
for the interchange of hazard warning and reports.
We are committed to using and supporting open standards. With
open standards, an emergency organization can increase the value of
its technology investments. Agencies can leverage their existing
technology by using these standards instead of developing one-off
interfaces for each agency with which they want to communicate. |

CAP:
What, Why and How?
The Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) is the OASIS Emergency Management
Technical Committee's standard for homeland security and civil emergency
messaging. It is used by several national agencies dealing with
emergencies of all kind, such as the Department of Homeland Security,
National Weather Service, and the United States Geological
Survey.
CAP has been endorsed by the National Emergency Management
Association's Preparedness Committee, the Partnership for Public Warning,
the ComCARE Alliance, the Emergency Interoperability Consortium and the
Capital Wireless Integrated Network (CapWIN).
